Tank Installation

Whether you are looking to install a new propane tank, add on to an existing propane system or switch from another propane supplier, here’s what you can expect when you call Midwest Gas to take care of your propane needs.

Tank Installation

  • Schedule a Free Consultation

Call us at 859-441-8112 to speak to a Midwest Gas representative and schedule a free visit to your location. While on site, our service technician will determine the appropriate tank size and placement for you. We will also assess if any equipment or parts are needed to safely install your propane tank according to codes and regulations. This free consultation will typically be scheduled within a week of contacting us.

  • Installation Process

Tank installation is usually scheduled within a week of the site evaluation, depending on weather and ground conditions. After the tank has been set and leveled, we will run the propane gas lines and test the system for leaks. Once complete, a delivery driver will fill the tank with propane. Above ground tank installation or swapping out another above ground tank for a Midwest Gas tank, usually takes only a couple of hours, up to a half day.
For underground propane tanks, Midwest Gas will provide specifications for the preparation of the hole and backfilling, however, we will not perform the excavation. We will place the underground propane tank in the prepared hole, connect gas lines, and test the system for leaks. Underground propane tanks can take up to a full day to install.

  • Safety & System Review

The most important part of your tank installation is the Gas System and Appliance Check, an inspection program that provides propane technicians with guidelines to thoroughly inspect propane systems to guarantee safety. After completing this inspection, our team will review the installation with you to explain how your system works, walk you through safety procedures, and answer any questions you may have. Take comfort knowing we are here for you every step of the way.

Tank Sizes

We sell, lease, and install a wide range of propane tanks. This guide to propane tank sizes can help you choose the right one for your home and your propane needs.

  • 100-pound tanks

If you’re using propane for one small or infrequently used propane appliance, like gas logs or a cooking range, this would be the size you will likely get.

  • 120-gallon tanks

Some propane equipment such as space heaters, water heaters, and clothes dryers consume more propane than others. This tank is for these appliances. However, if you want to use propane for whole-house heating, this size tank is insufficient.

  • 250-gallon tanks

You’ll need a tank this big if you have three or more propane appliances, such as water heaters, ranges, and clothes dryers. In some cases, this might be large enough for whole-house heating, depending on the size of your home and the type of furnace.

  • 500-gallon tanks

If you heat your home with propane, your propane tank will typically be a 500-gallon tank. The size of your home and how many other propane appliances you have will determine if this is the best size tank for your needs. This is the most common size of propane tank that we provide.

  • 1,000-gallon tanks

This type of tank is most often seen in commercial, agricultural, or industrial environments. But if you have a big house and use propane for heating and many high-Btu appliances like pool heaters, this may be the ideal option.
